The Pepper Pot thread sold here is made up of 100% silk and works on an 18 canvas mesh. While this silk needlepoint thread may not be as durable as other materials, such as Persian wool, it creates a beautiful sheen finish that’s perfect for intricate details on materials such as cotton silk. Use this silk thread with a laying tool for better thread management.

For utter durability, you might prefer the Vineyard Merino. It is made of 100% Merino wool and works well on 18 mesh. Wool is generally considered the strongest material for stitching – more so than cotton thread. The puffing effect of the wool is also handy for covering the entirety of the canvas. If you want to stitch onto an item that will get used often, such as a child’s pillow, wool is a strong choice.

If you want to liven up your canvas, you might choose a novelty thread by Rainbow Gallery. These are made of silk, rayon, and metalized polyester and produce a sparkly effect. Rainbow Gallery also does fluffy-textured fibers. These are more exciting threads that are often used in collaboration with other thread types.
